Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens

Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens

Escape today's busy world in over 200 acres of paradise at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, West Sussex

Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens has breathtaking views of the English countryside and blooming displays of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias, Magnolias and Bluebells. A kaleidoscope of colour sweeps throughout the grounds, listing the garden as Grade I in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

Being one of the very few Grade 1 gardens it is often described as the most beautiful landscape garden in Europe. The rich flora in the garden was planted by Sir Edmund Loder, a Victorian plant collector. His plantation included many species of trees giving the garden its renowned reputation. After its closure to the public back in 2010, the gardens had been left to fend for themselves. Now owned by the Streeter family, they are opening it up to the public once again, to share with the world the magnificent Leonardslee gardens.

The Lakes

The gardens are set in a tranquil valley, at the foot, a small stream flows into a series of seven lakes which play host to the gardens abundant wildlife whilst reflecting the spectacular display of colours that surround them.

The Rock Garden

It is one of the most beautiful areas of the garden in the Spring. As you enter through the gate the mosaic of colours surrounds you, Japanese Azalea’s contrast with the shapes of palms and conifers for a truly unique view.

The Dolls House

Created in 1/12th scale this extensive exhibition has captivated visitors young and old. Showcasing a variety of scenes from a country estate in the 1900s it was designed and built with a real sense of fun!
